IMPACT Europe consortium partners take part in event on Radicalisation and the Role of Schools, Youth Care and Local Government

Representatives of three IMPACT Europe consortium partner organisations, namely Verweij-Jonker Institute, Dutch National Police, and Hogeschool Utrecht, attended a Local Professionals Day on “Radicalisation and the Role of Schools, Youth Care and Local Government,” which took place on 18 June in The Hague, Netherlands. The event was organised by the Dutch National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism and attracted an eclectic group of 289 professionals engaged in counter violent radicalisation work, including local government officials, teachers, lecturers, and researchers, youth care workers, police, and probation and detention officers.

Within the framework of a range of plenary lectures and workshops, event participants were invited to explore the state-of-the-art with regard to pedagogical research on radicalisation in adolescents and children. Participants were also able to learn about existing approaches to effectively flagging up and preventing the radicalisation of children and adolescents.

As discussions throughout the day touched upon the persistent gap in knowledge about what works in deradicalisation and the vital importance of evaluating deradicalisation interventions as a first step towards increasing their impact, IMPACT Europe attracted considerable interest from many of the event participants and IMPACT Europe consortium partners were able to engage in a wide range of discussions with interested parties. To further raise awareness about IMPACT Europe, a project information leaflet was also included in all event folders.
