IMPACT Europe at the 2016 SRIE

In June 2016, Freek Hermens of VJI and Theo Muskee of DNP were invited to present the IMPACT Europe project and its outputs at the Security, Research & Innovation Event (SRIE), a two-day conference of talks, workshops and expos held in The Hague (Netherlands). The 2016 SRIE was organised by the European Commission, the Dutch government, and by a number of private sector and academic partners. The conference attracted policymakers, industry representatives, practitioners and researchers from countries worldwide, showcasing the latest developments and results achieved with regard to tackling Europe’s security challenges and providing a platform for discussions around emerging challenges and threats.

At SRIE, Freek and Theo presented the IMPACT Europe project and CVE evaluation toolkit at the Security Innovation Room, a forum which brought together security experts and practitioners to explore the leading innovations and products in the fields of counter-terrorism, law enforcement, cybercrime, border management and forensics. Events in this forum were held in an interactive and participatory way, which allowed for live demonstrations of the use of the IMPACT toolkit. The event proved to be a very valuable opportunity for the IMPACT Europe team to gather feedback from professionals engaged in counter violent-extremism worldwide, as well as to engage with a number of interested practitioners who subsequently joined the IMPACT Europe Toolkit pilot programme.
